Kobe's Minato HANABI takes the opposite approach to every other festival on this list: five consecutive nights in late October, each with a compact 20-minute show over Meriken Park — fireworks as a nightly harbor illumination rather than a single overwhelming event. The port towers, hotels and ships light up in sync, and you can simply show up after dinner.
Background
Created in 2021 as the successor to the massive one-night Kobe Marine Fireworks Festival, the dispersed format was designed to end the dangerous overcrowding of the old event and fit the city's harbor-nightscape identity.
Getting there
Meriken Park is about 10 minutes on foot from Motomachi Station (JR/Hanshin) or 15 from Sannomiya, in the middle of Kobe's waterfront district.
Tips
- No tickets, no site-camping, no crush — arrive 20–30 minutes early any of the five nights and you'll see everything.
- The show is short by design; build your evening around Kobe's harborfront dining and treat the fireworks as the closer.
- Harbor-view hotel rooms (Meriken Park Oriental, Port Tower side) turn the five-night run into a from-your-window event.
- Check the official schedule for nightly start times — they're earlier than typical summer festivals.
